Shakes are also made of spruce and treated pine as well as cedar. These hand-split shakes add a beautifully rugged appearance to your home, with a rough, textured look.  Shakes can also be machine cut to be smooth on both sides. Cedar tends to be the highest performing wood available, but treated pine can also perform very well.
