Traditional Slate
What is Slate?
If you have never owned a slate roof or are unfamiliar with slate roofs and their components, you may find yourself wondering what the benefits of a slate roof are. Slate is a natural stone mined all over the world, from the United States, Brazil, and China to India and many other places across the globe. However, we believe some of the best slates for roofing are quarried right here in North America.
Depending on the type and grade of roofing slate selected many slates have longevity of over 100 years making it an ideal roofing component. Traditional slate roofing requires a very solid structure to handle the appropriate weight. If your home can not support the weight of real slate, the alternative would be a synthetic product like Symphony Slate.
Some of the benefits of owning a slate roof:
- Increase property value
- Improve home's appearance
- Lifespan of more than a century
- Colors to match any exterior
Types of Slate
At Roland Slate Service, we have access to many slate types, colors and grades for all projects. Many historic areas in Baltimore have strict codes – and Roland Slate is accustomed to handling projects that require code compliance. We stock a significant amount of slate and have access to some salvaged historic slates which are no longer mined but still have many years of life (such as Peach Bottom slate).
